As an early childhood special educator I can testify that the speech and language domain is the most common area of concern. A delay in this area greatly impacts the cognitive functioning of a child as well as other areas such as personal social and behavior, adaptive and even their attending skills since they would have a hard time understanding language and expressing themselves. I have seen tremendous growth in my students when children receive early intervention and most especially when parents continue the intervention at home. Parents and family are the best teachers especially for oral language skills. Babies start their journey to learning and communicating even when they are still in their mother's wombs by listening to their parents' voices. OUR children need us so they can learn to communicate. Here are simple tips that the family and educators can work on to boost a child's oral language development.
